(FileSize: 477 kb) [Freeware] ScreenShot

Sometimes you enter a Web site and advertisement windows start popping up faster than you can close them. This is especially annoying when that site is among your favorites. In most cases, the captions of those annoying windows are always the same, so Web Window Killer automatically closes any window with a caption or caption fragment that appears in a customizable list.

Process Explorer 8.41 Windows 95/98/NT4/Me/2000/XP/2003
(FileSize: 230 kb) [Freeware] ScreenShot

Ever wondered which program has a particular file or directory open? Now you can find out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded.

The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you’ll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you’ll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded. Process Explorer also has a powerful search capability that will quickly show you which processes have particular handles opened or DLLs loaded.

The unique capabilities of Process Explorer make it useful for tracking down DLL-version problems or handle leaks, and provide insight into the way Windows and applications work.

TextMorph 2.1 Windows 95/98/NT/Me/2000/XP
(FileSize: 1.3 mb - 2.2 mb) [Freeware] ScreenShot

TextMorph is a powerful ASCII text formatter. It is also a text editor, similar to Notepad. There are lots of text editing programs around, but TextMorph has a number of things that set it apart. TextMorph has a number of "tools" that you can apply to the text, such as converting from text to HTML and vice versa, cleaning up emails (removing all those ">" signs and so forth), search and replace by words OR multiple paragraphs, changing upper/lower case, etc. - all with the click of a mouse! You can also create your own custom tools that utilize the pre-set tools. Plus, with the Multiple File Morph wizard, you can apply tools to a large group of files at one time, without having to open and edit each file. This makes TextMorph an ideal program for people who work with large numbers of text files or archives of HTML or text content, as it can quickly and easily apply formatting to all files.
But most people can benefit from TextMorph if for no other reason than using it to quickly "clean up" forwarded emails. TextMorph is a fairly simple program to use, but it is also very powerful and provides many advanced options including command line processing of files and the ability to actually make your own tools and interface them with TextMorph, which can be very useful to programmers.

TextMorph runs on all 32-bit Windows platforms from Windows 95B on, and is easy to install and uninstall. It has been thoroughly tested on Windows 95B and Windows XP. Complete program information and examples are given in the help file that comes with the program.

MR Tech Systray 2.5 Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP

Special Note: MR Tech Systray 2.5 is Freeware. There is also a newer 3.0 beta 1 version for download. It has more features and he also mentions that "PRO" features will be coming soon. So it looks to be that the 3.0 beta at this time, is also free. However once they add Pro features, then it will probably be Shareware. Although I can't find any mention of that on the Website.

MR Tech Systray is a swiss army knife of tools, tweaks and system options. It will not only let you quickly shut down, restart or log off from Windows, it can help keep your hard disk a little cleaner, organize your MP3 & Other Media files, edit MP3´s iD3 tags, sort text lines, log reboots and tune your system. Other features include: system-wide shortcut keys, an incredibly fast program uninstaller, a directory jump list, enhanced system information, save or print screenshot/window and more.
The primary functionality is the fact that it runs quietly in the system tray and allows you to run it by either left or right-clicking on the icon. Left clicking will open up the main windows containing several pieces of system information as well as a plethora of tools, tweaks and options. Many options are available quickly via right-click menu in your systray. And there are also several system-wide keyboard shortcuts that are created on startup.

Mozilla Thunderbird 0.7 Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP
Also available for Linux and Mac OS X
(FileSize: 5.9 mb) [Freeware] Small ScreenShot

Mozilla's Thunderbird mail client is a redesign of the Mozilla mail component. Its goal is to produce a cross-platform, standalone mail application using the XUL user interface language. It is modeled after the Mozilla Firebird rewrite of the Mozilla browser. The intended customer is someone who uses Mozilla Firebird (or another non-Mozilla browser) as his or her primary browser and who wants a mail client based on Mozilla that plays nice with the browser. Some of the new features in version 0.7 include a smaller and faster Windows installer, new themes and Extension Manager, Crash Analysis Tools (Talkback), Thunderbird now supports a user interface for creating multiple identities per e-mail account.

This software may work well enough to be relied upon as your primary messaging client, as it's based on the stable Mozilla 1.6 architecture. However, Mozilla Thunderbird is still a preview release, and therefore several features may not be complete.

* Top Pick updated??? *

Special Note: It was pointed out in alt.comp.freeware by a long time member Mr. Corliss, that this update is probably bogus. As most of the major websites have no info on this update. So I would tend to agree that this is probably a bogus update. However I have downloaded the program, and have found no problems with it. It's a great program, but proceed with caution if you choose to try this version.

Skype is the next phenomenon from the people who brought you KaZaA. Just like KaZaA, Skype uses P2P (peer-to-peer) technology to connect you to other users – not to share files this time, but to talk and chat with your friends.

The technology is extremely advanced – but super simple to use... You’ll be making free phone calls to your friends in no time!

-Free unlimited worldwide phone calls to other Skype users
-Superior sound quality – better than your regular phone
-Works with all firewall, NAT and routers – nothing to configure!
-Friends list shows you when your Skype friends are online and ready to talk or chat
-Super-simple and easy to use
-Your calls are encrypted “end-to-end” for superior privacy
-Based on cutting edge peer-to-peer technology developed by the creators of Kazaa and Joltid
